Link Project
My main project for LINK was to design and create a dust filtration system for the workshop. Specifically, after the bike frames are heat treated, they are polished using a compressed-air powered grinder and a wire brush. This process creates a large amount of airborne aluminum dust, which then spreads around the workshop and forces the worker to wear a filtration mask. My task was to create a system that filters out the majority of the aluminum dust out of the air, primarily using materials they already had on site. After multiple ideas and revisions, the final product had a plywood frame, a shelf and hooks to store tools, a light wired to a switch, an outlet box, a fan wired to a switch, and a common sized filter for inexpensive replacements.
